Florida Keys for a Wedding

I just returned home from an amazing weekend in the Florida Keys, where we attended a friend's wedding! It was a quick trip as we only went for a long weekend, but definitely felt like we made the most out of our time there.  I arrived at Key West Airport Thursday afternoon, which was tiny and easy to get in and out of. Our hotel, The Southernmost Beach Resort, was a quick 10 minuted drive along the coast. I was lucky enough to stay in an ocean view room which I highly recommend.  On Friday morning we started the day with a coffee at Frenchie's before strolling down Duval Street to visit Ernest Hemingway's House. Later that evening the welcome party took place at Bagatelle on Key West. The following day we walked up Duval street to Frenchie's for breakfast and then just hung around our hotel. It started down-pouring (which was not in the forecast for the day) so we grabbed a couple piña coladas at the beach cafe to stay dry. It cleared up and turned into a beautiful afternoon, just in time for us to catch the boat over to Sunset Key Cottages, their wedding venue on Sunset Key, a fun 10-minute ride away.

Sunset Key is a small private island full of lovely homes and a beautiful restaurant, Latitudes, which I would love to make a reservation at next time. Their beach wedding was elegantly simple, a vision I aspire to for my own wedding in the future. Every detail came together beautifully, creating an intimate and special atmosphere for all 50ish guests. The love shared by all present was palpable, and it was so much fun getting to spend a couple nights celebrating the happy couple.

The bride and groom arranged for a boat ride over to Sunset Key with other wedding guests staying on Key West.

As the boat pulled into the dock we had a great view of the only restaurant on the island, Latitudes. If you aren't staying on the island, making a reservation here is one of the only ways you can come over on the ferry to visit.

The most adorable personalized drink umbrellas. I found some similar ways to add a sweet personal touch below.

Sunset Key Cottages - The ceremony was a no phones ceremony so this was the last photo I took before we took our seats on the beach.

On the balcony of our hotel room before heading to the welcome party at Bagatelle. Bagatelle was a super cute restaurant and bar across the street from several other dive bars. We all stopped at Hog's Breath Saloon for a drink before and ended the night across the street at Conch Shack for the famous conch fritters. (Multiple people claim to have the islands best conch but we personally think our hotel Southernmost Beach Cafe were our favorites.)

The welcome party took place on the back rooftop part of Bagatelle. It was festive themed cocktail attire. There was an open bar and the best passed hors d'oeuvre's. Cuban sandwiches, chimichurri steak skewers, fresh fruit, and more local cuisines. A man playing the steel drum, which I had never seen before, set the mood for the evening and was a really fun touch to the party. Welcome canvas gift bags were given to everyone at the end of the night.

The view outside of our room was unbeatable. Colorful adirondack chairs and umbrellas made for a nice spot to enjoy the sunsets in the evening. With a pool right next door and a short walk to one of the beaches and the beach cafe we were in an ideal location.

If you have the time, the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum is definitely worth a visit. We didn't have the time for the guided tour but paid the $18 entry fee and walked around the property ourselves. It was so cool to read more about his life and see where he spent his time in the Keys. The 6 toed cats roaming the property were a plus!
